The FLEX Mark Sense Software allows the user of any of the image enabled transport to read marks (characters) the customer has made on the return stub. These marks include change of address, change in billing frequency, meter readings or other prompted responses. This is done during the processing of the payment, and can greatly reduce the need to key the reading manually. The time saved can be substantial.

The Process

As the stubs and checks are processed using the Flex Application (see the Flex Product Description for processing details), the images of the stubs are archived. When the payment processing is finished the operator clicks on the meter read icon, and the system retrieves the stub images and reads the marks. The stubs do not need to be scanned twice. The results are merged with the payment processing data and sent to the host.

The Results

The results are two fold. First, the automated remittance process will speed up the processing of payments, reducing the number of errors and reducing the labor hours required to post payments. Second, the labor to post the meter reads is reduced, by only needing to key the marks that are not correctly filled out.
